Three Industry Advocates Honored for Public Policy Leadership

The SIA recognizes Brett Feddersen, Gene Fullano and John Steele for their work on drone security and legislation.

The SIA has named Brett Feddersen, Gene Fullano and John Steele as the recipients of the 2026 Industry Advocate of the Year Award. The honor recognizes member volunteers for their contributions to public policy challenges impacting the security industry.

Feddersen, vice president for strategy and governmental affairs at D-Fend Solutions, serves as chair of the SIA Drone Security Subcommittee. He has led efforts to educate authorities on counter-drone technologies and advocated for legislative changes to mitigate uncrewed aircraft system attacks.

Fullano, senior director of government affairs at Motorola Solutions, previously chaired the SIA Government Relations Committee for three years. During his tenure, he helped the industry navigate issues regarding data privacy, artificial intelligence and biometrics while developing resources for federal grant opportunities and school security funding.

Steele, senior director of government relations for Johnson Controls, has been a catalyst for SIA’s state and local advocacy programs. His work has focused on legislative outcomes involving government procurement, right-to-repair policies and school safety.

The awardees were recognized during the Security Hill Day event held March 4–5, where industry executives met with members of Congress to discuss tax policies, telecommunications and federal incentives.
