In its latest edition of the Application Usage and Risk Report, Palo Alto Networks draws attention to several realities that typically fall outside of the approved enterprise communications mechanisms.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has advised the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) that it has identified five “foundational” sets of standards for Smart Grid interoperability and cyber security that are ready for consideration by federal and state energy regulators.

Theft of information and electronic data at global companies has overtaken physical theft for the first time, according to the latest edition of the Kroll Annual Global Fraud Report. This year’s study shows that the amount lost by businesses to fraud rose from $1.4 million to $1.7 million per billion dollars of sales in the past 12 months – an increase of more than 20 percent.

Last March, the U.S. Congress heard testimony about a scientific study in the journal Safety Science. A military analyst worried that the paper presented a model of how an attack on a small, unimportant part of the U.S. power grid might, like dominoes, bring the whole grid down.
On November 4 and 5, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) will host the Cloud Computing Forum and Workshop II to give government and industry stakeholders opportunity to comment on the next steps in developing cloud computing standards.
