North Carolina Transit System Uses Network Video To Enhance Safety, Improve Operations

Verint Systems Inc. recently announced that the Charlotte Area Transit System has selected its Nextiva Transit solution to enhance safety and improve overall operations on its fleet of municipal buses.

The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) serves a six county area around Charlotte, NC, operating bus and trolley services as well as a light rail system. Providing over 20 million passenger rides annually, CATS is the largest transit system located between Washington, D.C. and Atlanta. In support of the organization’s continuing security enhancement efforts, CATS will deploy Nextiva Transit to help increase passenger and operator safety, deter vandalism and theft, accelerate emergency response, and enhance operational efficiency.

Nextiva Transit will network video across more than 300 vehicles in the CATS fleet, enabling the transfer of critical video and event data back to the CATS central monitoring station for investigation and risk management purposes. The solution will also enable more effective management of the CATS on-board video network through automatic system health monitoring and proactive alarm notification.

“Rapidly growing cities like Charlotte face increasing challenges in securing their vast public transportation infrastructures,” said Jim Clark, senior vice president and general manager of Verint Video Intelligence Solutions. “Verint’s extensive experience with large mass transit deployments makes us the provider of choice to help operators like CATS deliver safe and accessible public transportation.”
