Assistant Secretary Of Homeland Security Opens Conference With Keynote

Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Julie Myers will open the 2008 GovSec, U.S. Law and Ready Conference and Exposition. Myers is followed by the first responder keynote Gregory B. Cade, Assistant Administrator, FEMA, U.S. Fire Administration; the U.S. Law keynote Greg Massa, Chief, National Joint Terrorism Task Force, Federal Bureau of Investigation and finally the cyber security keynote Lauri Almann, Permanent Undersecretary of Defence for the Republic of Estonia.

Scheduled for April 23-24, 2008 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., GovSec, U.S. Law and Ready is the largest event in the nation for those involved in national security.

Julie Myers
Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement

Julie Myers is the assistant secretary of homeland security for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). She leads the largest investigative component of the Department of Homeland Security and the second largest investigative agency in the federal government, with more than 15,000 employees and an annual budget of more than $5 billion. ICE is comprised of five integrated divisions (Detention and Removal Operations, Investigations, Federal Protective Service, Intelligence and International Affairs) that form a 21st century law enforcement agency with broad responsibilities for a number of key homeland security priorities. During the first 12 months of Myers' leadership ICE set new records for enforcement activity, including ending the long-standing practice of “catch and release” for apprehended illegal immigrants.

Gregory Cade
Assistant Administrator, FEMA, U.S. Fire Administration

Gregory Cade is the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Assistant Administrator (Fire Administrator) for the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA). Appointed in May 2007, Assistant Administrator Cade is responsible for supporting state and local fire service programs as well as implementing FEMA Administrator R. David Paulison's initiatives for emergency readiness, firefighter training, and equipment.

Greg Massa
Chief, National Joint Terrorism Task Force, Federal Bureau of Investigation

Greg Massa attended the FBI Academy at Quantico, Virginia and was appointed a Special Agent in 1997. Mr. Massa’s first assignment was to the New York Field Division, the FBI’s largest division, where he worked Italian Organized Crime matters. In recognition for his efforts in the dismantlement of the Bonanno La Cosa Nostra Family, Mr. Massa was awarded the Attorney General’s Award for Superior Performance in 2005 and was promoted to Supervisory Special Agent at FBI Headquarters -- Counterterrorism Division, where he managed over 250 counterterrorism cases for three field divisions. In 2007, Massa was promoted to Unit Chief of the National Joint Terrorism Task Force, which is comprised of 63 FBI personnel and Task Force Officers representing 44 federal, state and local agencies. In this capacity, Massa directs the task force’s day to day operations and has program management responsibilities for the 102 JTTFs located nationwide.

Lauri Almann
Permanent Undersecretary of Defence, Republic of Estonia

Lauri Almann is currently Permanent Undersecretary of Defence for the Republic of Estonia. Almann was a Legal Advisor to the Ministry of Defence before accepting the position of Permanent Undersecretary. Almann also served as Legal Advisor to the Minister of Defence, Secretary of the Estonian Embassy in Belgium, Brussels and Attaché in the Consular Department of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He currently serves on the International Security Advisory Board and is Chair of Law and Public Administration at the Estonian Business School in Tallinn.
