Massachusetts City Increases Security Infrastructure With Network Video Surveillance

The city of Cohasset, Mass. is increasing its city-wide monitoring and security infrastructure with a network video surveillance system powered by Videolarm IP ready equipment, Axis cameras and Volpe Industries DETEXI video management software.

Volpe Industries, a provider of industrial IP video surveillance and software technology, designed and customized Cohasset’s camera network to meet the specific and unique monitoring needs of four of its public schools and the city’s municipal water treatment plant.

At the Cohasset Water Treatment Plant, Volpe Industries installed a combination of Videolarm IP Ready -- outdoor environmental fixed dome housings and outdoor fusion dome enclosures combined with a variety of Axis IP cameras.

This hardware was deployed throughout the town at several remote locations including two water towers, three reservoir intake platforms and multiple water treatment plant locations. These enclosure models were also installed at the four public schools throughout the town. The Videolarm’s IR50-3 Infrared Illuminators were deployed for night video surveillance.

The IR50-3 provides nighttime and low-light video illumination on several of the cameras. The Videolarm equipment is powered by Volpe Industries’ DETEXI IP-based NVR software. The NVR supports automatic video storage triggered from software motion sensing and/or hard inputs from the camera (motion detectors, light beams, door contacts, etc.).

Touring capabilities are included, as well as several multimedia functions that are useful when remote notification is needed.

“The quality of Videolarm’s camera and equipment was an important part of completing this custom build solution.” said Christopher Volpe, Volpe Industries president and CEO. “In today’s security industry, organizations must be innovative, quick to market and have the ability to provide, implement and support state of the art technology software because failure is not an option when it comes to surveillance for your own vested business.”

All the surveillance systems that were deployed are fully scalable and can be quickly and easily expanded. As Cohasset’s monitoring needs change and more cameras need to be brought online upgrading can be done as required.

“Cities around the nation count on Volpe Industries capabilities to help them develop the surveillance networks that provide anytime anywhere visibility of people, property and operations,” said Ray Pagano, Videolarm president. “It is rewarding to be Volpe’s technology partner on the Cohasset project and we are proud to know that our equipment is playing a role in helping to provide city leaders with peace of mind.”

  • Evolving Cybersecurity Strategies

Organizations are increasingly turning their attention to human-focused security approaches, as two out of three (68%) cybersecurity incidents involve people. Threat actors are shifting from targeting networks and systems to hacking humans via social engineering methods, living off human errors as their most prevalent attack vector. Whether manipulated or not, human cyber behavior is leveraged to gain backdoor access into systems. This mainly results from a lack of employee training and awareness about evolving attack techniques employed by malign actors. Read Now
