SoBran Announces SafeMail Training in Support of the Government-Required Annual Review Process

America, more than any other nation, trusts and believes in the safety, security and dependability of the mail. Americans trust in the system and rarely give thought to the risk involved when opening a letter or package. It is this belief that makes the mail so dangerous according to SoBran. Left undetected, mail-borne threats can harm employees, interrupt business, and present a direct threat to the nation's critical infrastructure. In 2009, Federal Management Regulation 41CFR §102.192.70‐80 was issued requiring all Federal mail centers, regardless of size, to develop and implement a comprehensive, multi‐element security plan, which would be subject to annual review by an outside source.

Mailroom managers can now get the needed training to ensure their facilities are fully prepared to pass the annual review process, as well as have the required on‐site inspections, with SoBran. The training addresses each requirement of the regulation and provides the information and working templates needed to ensure compliance. The SoBran team of SafeMail subject‐matter experts currently conducts these inspections for the General Services Administration (GSA).

  • In addition to 41CFR §102.192.70‐80 training and compliance verification, agencies can
  • safeguard employees and facilities with a range of SafeMail security services that include:
  • Full service off‐site and on‐site mail screening;
  • On‐site risk assessments and analysis;
  • Facility and workflow design;
  • Operational procedures and emergency action plan development and validation; and
  • Customized training.

“The increase in hazardous mail and the mandated annual review for federal mailrooms is
putting pressure on mailroom managers to find reliable and flexible solutions,” said Tom Bauer, senior vice president of SoBran. ”Federal agencies can trust SoBran’s 24‐year track record and our ability to adapt SafeMail programs to their unique needs.”

41CFR §102.192.70‐80 compliance seminar attendees have included the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Defense, the Department of Transportation, the United States Customs and Immigration Service and the Federal Protective Service.

Marshall Keith James, director of training and commercial programs at SoBran, will be presenting “Protecting Critical Infrastructure in an Apathetic Environment” Wednesday March 30 at 11:15 a.m. at the GovCyber Pavilion Theater at GovSec at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
