Quintron Systems Preview Logical Access Control System

Quintron Systems Inc. recently announced its new version of AccessNsite PACS provides a Logical Access Control System solution (LACS) via Active Directory, the use of a Smart Card, such as HID’s iClass cards, and something the user knows.

"With Quintron’s multi-decade government systems sales and support experience, we decided to invest in an innovative LACS solution for existing and new commercial, industrial, institutional, plus federal, state, local, and critical infrastructure IT customers that want to substantially enhance and enforce the username and password logon process to enterprise networks,” said Richard Finnegan, vice president and general manager at Quintron. “The Quintron LACS solution is a true convergence of the AccessNsite PACS, Active Directory, a Smart Card and the user. With our implementation, a user cannot logon a workstation without first presenting their Smart Card to a USB reader and then entering a password text string they know. The solution does not require any software to be loaded onto the workstation yet it can restrict what user can log onto what workstation and server platform depending on data stored on the user’s smart card. It is both a simplification and substantial upgrade in network access control without a big investment by the enterprise in additional software applications.”

This solution is intended to satisfy a number of IT security compliance standards by requiring the use of the token used for facility access control to also be used for workstation or thin client logon access. Furthermore we have addressed the IT requirement to require the token at logon without the need for any client software. Our goal in this solution development was to both raise the security level of existing client log in process while increasing the user convenience through eliminating the need to memorize sets of user names and passwords. Increased convenience means increased compliance with both internal security processes and compliance with existing and emerging IT security regulations such as PCI, SOX, HIPPA, and more.

Traditionally logical security solutions have not leveraged existing credentials used by employees to enter physical facilities. Now, through AccessNsite’s LACS solution, the same investment in physical access control security is able to enhance and resolve other logical access control processes for employees access to an enterprise network.

“Quintron’s more than 40 years of experience in mission critical communications and security solutions leverages our in-house expertise, engineering, and knowledge to deliver trusted, tailor-made solutions to channel partners and end user organizations, and provide superior service that enhances customer value,” Finnegan said. “And it compliments a broader offering of integrated access control, alarm management, video surveillance, and voice communications for small, medium, and large enterprise-class customers across many categories of organizations.”

  • The Evolution of IP Camera Intelligence

As the 30th anniversary of the IP camera approaches in 2026, it is worth reflecting on how far we have come. The first network camera, launched in 1996, delivered one frame every 17 seconds—not impressive by today’s standards, but groundbreaking at the time. It did something that no analog system could: transmit video over a standard IP network. Read Now

  • From Surveillance to Intelligence

Years ago, it would have been significantly more expensive to run an analytic like that — requiring a custom-built solution with burdensome infrastructure demands — but modern edge devices have made it accessible to everyone. It also saves time, which is a critical factor if a missing child is involved. Video compression technology has played a critical role as well. Over the years, significant advancements have been made in video coding standards — including H.263, MPEG formats, and H.264—alongside compression optimization technologies developed by IP video manufacturers to improve efficiency without sacrificing quality. The open-source AV1 codec developed by the Alliance for Open Media—a consortium including Google, Netflix, Microsoft, Amazon and others — is already the preferred decoder for cloud-based applications, and is quickly becoming the standard for video compression of all types.
