HID Global Launches Certified Online PIV-I Credential Service for Federal Contractors

HID Global has announced a comprehensive online service at www.hidglobal.com/piviservice that reduces the time and complexity required for contractors to obtain employee credentials which comply with the government’s Personal Identity Verification – Interoperable (PIV-I) requirements.

“For organizations that must use PIV-I credentials, the new, certified HID Global PIV-I Service provides a single and simple, on-demand solution from the global leader in physical access cards and a leader in PIV card issuance technology,” said Tony Ball, senior vice president of identity and access management for HID Global. “Users can save time with our four-step enrollment process and convenient, online ordering and payment portal, while enjoying the convenience of 24-hour, Web-based account access for managing all of their PIV-I credentialing requirements.”

Homeland Security Presidential Directive-12 mandates the use of secure and reliable forms of identification by all federal employees and contractors. According to OMB 11-11; a February 2011 memorandum from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Office of Management and Budget, starting next fiscal year, federal agencies may not use development and technology refresh funds until they upgrade existing physical and logical access control systems to use PIV credentials in accordance with National Institute of Standards and Technology guidelines.

HID Global has completed all of the policy compliance and interoperability testing that is required to cross-certify its PIV-I Service through CertiPath, the government partner responsible for testing PIV-I credentials used for physical and logical access in collaboration with the Federal Public Key Infrastructure Policy Authority. CertiPath’s approval provides validation that the PIV-I Service meets rigorous standards and is cross-certified to the U.S. Federal Bridge according to PIV-I standards.

The certified HID Global PIV-I Service offering will be managed through ActivIdentity, recently acquired by HID Global. ActivIdentity has been a provider of PIV issuance and verification software to the U.S. federal government for more than 10 years, in accordance with U.S. government requirements for physical access to secured buildings and logical access to government resources.

“Our certificate-based credential issuance and verification technology is already widely used by U.S. federal agencies, and both national and local government agencies around the world, including The National Policing Improvement Agency in the U.K.,” said Jerome Becquart, ActivIdentity general manager. “Now, we are applying this expertise to an easy and convenient service that federal contractors can use to obtain PIV-I cards for employees who require access to U.S. government facilities, networks and information systems.”

The HID Global PIV-I Service is an element of the company’s recently unveiled Federal Identity Initiative, which provides customers with turnkey solutions for complying with HSPD-12 requirements that are embodied in Federal Information Processing Standards Publication 201 without having to replace their current physical access infrastructures.

To get started, register a company by completing the customer application or call 1-855-HID-PIVI (1-855-443-7484). This creates an online account for one or more company representatives to purchase PIV-I cards and sponsor employees. Once employees have been sponsored, they will receive an email directing them to the enrollment website. The enrollment website takes employees through four simple steps to obtain their PIV-I cards.
