Security Zones and Fences to be prepped for Pope's Philadelphia Visit

A fence is to be constructed around security perimeters in Philadelphia for Pope Francis’ visit in September, announced Mayor Michael Nutter. The mayor also addressed logistical topics such as school closures, taxi services and other announcements for business owners.

Mayor Nutter described two different terms, “Security Perimeter” and “Secure Vehicle Perimeter.” Security Perimeters are being developed around the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and Independence Mall, where the pope is expected to address crowds.

These perimeters will be surrounded by a fence that will have entry points. Vehicles will be removed from said perimeter. The Secure Vehicle Perimeter will dictate where vehicles will be forced to be removed around the initial security perimeter.
