Deadly Taliban Attack in Kabul

Deadly Taliban Attack in Kabul

Afghan police officials are saying the explosion that killed 28 people and wounded 300 more was the work of Taliban militants who were trying to target a security team that protects government VIPs.

On the morning of April 19, a suicide bomber detonated a vehicle filled with explosives in a private parking lot behind a compound, destroying the back wall of the building. A second attacker then entered the building; he later died in a gun battle with security forces less than two hours later.

Despite the fact that the Taliban was reportedly after a target, the majority of the victims were civilians – including women and children.

Afghan journalist Esmatullah Kohsar tweeted photos of his office building, the windows shattered in the blast.

A women’s rights activist of Afghanistan, Wazhma Frogh said that she was arriving at work near the site of the attack when the blast happened. She explained the explosion site to be near schools.

Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani condemned the attack in a tweet.
