Monitronics Announces Availability of Alexa Skill for Amazon Echo

Monitronics announced the availability of voice control for the smart home through the new Skill for Amazon Echo.  By adding the hands-free convenience of voice commands, Monitronics provides meaningful new enhancements to their existing customers and makes it easier than ever for Monitronics’ customers to interact with their homes and keep their properties safe.

Homeowners can easily control and check the status of all their connected devices and quickly perform daily tasks such as locking the door, checking to ensure the security system is armed, adjusting the lighting, or capturing video clips.

“The new Alarm.com smart home skill for Amazon Echo provides added value to Monitronics security systems,” said Peter Tonti, Monitronics Vice President of Product Management. “This yet another integration we have added that gives our customers and dealers flexibility, and we are excited for the implications.”

“The smart home is becoming more valuable every day,” said Jay Kenny, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Alarm.com.  “The Alarm.com platform connects devices across the home to unlock the full potential of the smart home.  Voice-commands make it even simpler for homeowners to interact with their system.  It’s exciting to see new technology expand the capability of existing customers’ systems.”

Unlike standalone home automation devices, Monitronics customers can control multiple devices in their home with a single voice-command.  Instead of separately commanding the thermostat, security system, lights and door locks, the single command, “Alexa, ask Alarm.com to arm my security system,” triggers all the devices to automatically respond.

How it Works

Monitronics’ customers with Amazon Echo devices and a system powered by Alarm.com can now install the skill on their Echo device to enable a series of new voice commands.  Once installed, homeowners prompt Alexa to quickly and easily control a broad range of devices with a single command.

Tasks include:

  • Lighting control
  • Locking the door
  • Thermostat control
  • Arming the security system
  • Closing the garage door
  • Recording a video clip

The Alarm.com skill for Amazon Echo is now available for free download through the Amazon Alexa app.  To start using it today, simply search for “Alarm.com” under Skills in the Alexa app and enable the skill.
