DSI Security Officers Prevented Mass Shooting, Shielded Fellow Officer Amid Gunfire

In a moment charged with imminent danger, two DSI Security Services officers displayed extraordinary heroism, embodying the highest ideals of the security profession during an attempted mass shooting at a poultry processing plant in Mississippi.

Security Officer Jonathan Langley took swift and decisive action when a disgruntled former employee, armed with an assault rifle, returned to the facility with the clear intent to inflict mass harm. The attacker had already begun firing in the parking lot and was approaching the plant where hundreds of employees were working.

Langley stood as the final barrier between the assailant and the facility. He quickly assessed the unfolding situation and confronted the gunman head-on. Demonstrating exceptional composure, training, and courage, Langley was able to neutralize the threat before the shooter could enter the building or take any lives. His actions prevented what could have been an unimaginable tragedy.

Also on site that day was Karl Hammons, a seasoned officer and leader. As gunfire erupted, Hammons instinctively shielded a trainee officer with his own body, positioning himself to protect her from harm while bullets landed just inches away from them. His quick, selfless response ensured her safety under terrifying circumstances.

“The bravery shown by Officer Langley and Hammons is nothing short of heroic,” said Eddie Sorrells, CEO of DSI Security Services. “In extreme conditions, they did not hesitate to protect lives. Their actions saved countless employees and reinforced the profound impact and value of professional security officers. We owe them our deepest gratitude and respect.”

This incident underscores the critical role security professionals play on the front lines of workplace safety. Often unnoticed until moments of crisis, these officers are trained, prepared, and willing to put themselves in harm’s way to safeguard others.

Because of their courage and commitment, families were not left grieving, and a community was spared the trauma of a mass shooting. Their bravery is a powerful reminder: while security officers may often be overlooked, their work is indispensable, and their heroism is real.

Christopher Reeve once said, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” On that day, both Jonathan Langley and Karl Hammons became those heroes.
