Fenway Park Enhances Security Efficiency via Connected Platform

Johnson Controls implementation achieves 95% remote resolution rate while maintaining historic ballpark integrity.

Fenway Park has completed a comprehensive security infrastructure upgrade in partnership with Johnson Controls to enhance operational efficiency at the 114-year-old venue. The project utilizes a connected security platform to integrate video surveillance and access control while maintaining the stadium's historic architecture.

As the oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball, the facility faces the dual challenge of hosting 3 million annual visitors and navigating modern security staffing shortages. By deploying the Connected Security Services platform, the venue has moved from reactive maintenance to a proactive, cloud-based monitoring model.

This overhaul reflects a broader industry trend of athletic venues seeking to replace aging hardware with digital-first solutions. Similar to how Hard Rock Stadium modernizes security with cloud migration, Fenway Park’s transition to a connected environment allows for centralized oversight of complex, legacy perimeters.

Data from the first six months of implementation show a 95% remote resolution rate for security system issues. Of the 62 technical alerts identified during this period, 59 were resolved without the need for an on-site technician. This shift has resulted in a 50% reduction in service vehicle dispatches, significantly lowering operational costs and system downtime.

The technical overhaul includes the installation of 429 high-definition cameras and 49 access control devices. To ensure historical preservation, engineers utilized 32-megapixel cameras to cover large seating areas, reducing the total amount of physical hardware required to be mounted to the historic structure.

The new system provides 24/7 visibility into device health, allowing the security team to manage both surveillance and entry points through a single interface. Officials noted that the scalable infrastructure is designed to support future expansions as the area evolves into a mixed-use campus featuring retail and residential spaces.
