Allegion Releases Comprehensive Fire Door Inspection Guide

New resource helps security professionals navigate NFPA 80 compliance and essential safety requirements during Building Safety Month.

A new technical resource aims to help facility and security professionals navigate the complexities of life safety compliance. Allegion US recently released "Fire Door Inspections: The Essential Guide," a manual designed to clarify the requirements for maintaining passive fire protection systems.

Fire door assemblies are mandated by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 80 standards to undergo inspections following installation, maintenance or repair. Additionally, these assemblies must be inspected annually by a qualified individual to ensure all components function correctly.

The guide arrives as state and local authorities increase enforcement of building safety codes. While fire doors are vital to a building’s safety infrastructure, they are frequently cited for deficiencies during routine inspections. Proper documentation and the immediate repair of identified issues are required to maintain code compliance.

The digital resource provides a breakdown of where inspection requirements are located within model codes and referenced standards. It also features a detailed summary of NFPA 80 requirements and a checklist of the 13 specific inspection criteria used to evaluate door integrity.
