Interface Systems Launches Mobile Credentials for Access Control

Multi-location businesses can now replace physical keys and fobs with secure digital credentials stored in smartphone wallets.

Interface Systems, a provider of security and video monitoring services, announced Wednesday, May 06, the launch of Digital Keys, a mobile credential system for Digital Monitoring Products access control hardware.

The system allows administrators to issue, update, schedule and revoke credentials remotely through the DMP Virtual Keypad application. Credentials can be sent by text or email and stored in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet without requiring a separate app, the company said.

Users tap a smartphone or smartwatch against a reader using Near Field Communication technology, the same standard used in contactless payments. Interface said the credentials can function even if a phone's battery is low.

The product supports multi-technology readers that work with NFC credentials, existing cards and fobs. When paired with video surveillance, it links credential use to recorded footage, according to the company.

"Retailers, restaurant operators and commercial businesses need access control that keeps pace with employee turnover, distributed locations and evolving security expectations," said Steve Womer, senior vice president of product at Interface Systems. "Digital Keys gives them a practical way to reduce dependence on physical credentials while improving control over who can access each location."

The solution is available to customers using DMP access control systems.
