Perle Systems Marks 50 Years of Networking Hardware Innovation

The global network hardware manufacturer celebrates five decades of developing industrial IoT connectivity and out-of-band management technology.

Enterprise networking hardware manufacturer Perle Systems is celebrating its 50th anniversary, marking five decades of production in the device connectivity and internet of things markets.

Established in 1976 by entrepreneur Joe Perle, the company began with a focus on replacing traditional hardware-logic systems with embedded programming technologies. This foundational shift allowed for the development of flexible, programmable data communication devices. Within a year of its founding, the company established its own manufacturing capabilities, leading to the release of advanced network communication products throughout the 1980s.

Today, the manufacturer produces a wide portfolio of enterprise-grade hardware designed for distributed environments. Its product line includes serial-to-Ethernet converters, fiber media converters, industrial Ethernet switches, cellular routers and specialized console servers used for out-of-band management. This management technology allows IT professionals to access and reboot core infrastructure like routers and servers during primary network outages.

The company's hardware is deployed globally across sectors requiring continuous uptime, including public utilities, transportation networks, data centers, healthcare and telecommunications. To support these industrial environments, the hardware features high mean time between failures ratings and utilizes components sourced from Western semiconductor manufacturers.

Operating with sales and technical teams across North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, the organization manages its own hardware and software intellectual property. The company builds its equipment to open standards to maintain interoperability with existing network architectures, distributing products through a global network of integration partners and resellers.

Looking toward future development, the manufacturer is expanding its research into edge computing integration, advanced cybersecurity features for hardware and expanded internet of things connectivity platforms.
