Lock manufacturer ABLOY has introduced an artificial intelligence-assisted character modeled on Emil Henriksson, the Finnish engineer whose lock invention became the basis for the company.
Called Mr. Henriksson, the character will appear in online content and at events during ABLOY’s 120th anniversary observance in 2027. Planned topics include digital identity, electronic access control, networked infrastructure and emerging security technologies.
ABLOY said a designated team produces, reviews and approves AI content. AI assists production, while people retain responsibility for published videos, posts and interactions.
The company describes the character as an anniversary initiative inspired by Henriksson’s approach to engineering rather than an attempt to reenact historical events.
Henriksson developed the disc detainer lock in 1907 after recognizing that rotating discs in a mechanical cash register could provide a locking mechanism. His invention formed the foundation of ABLOY’s subsequent development.
Johanna Varis, who leads marketing and segment development at Abloy Oy, said the character will connect the company’s engineering origins with discussions about emerging security technologies.
