Four States Expand Axon Corrections Technology

New deployments include body cameras, drones and connected monitoring systems, with two agencies also testing artificial intelligence tools.

Corrections agencies in New York, Ohio, Maryland and North Carolina are deploying or expanding Axon equipment, including cameras, monitoring platforms and electronic control devices, the company announced.

The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services is rolling out Axon Body 4 cameras at its 17 facilities after a trial. According to Axon, the department recorded 40% fewer physical assaults on staff in August than in August of the previous year.

The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision has deployed technology covering 42 facilities and 15,000 officers. Its systems include Body 4 cameras, Fleet in-car video, Fusus, Dedrone and Skydio drones. The agency is also testing artificial intelligence tools.

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction has added Axon TASER devices and is piloting AI tools for productivity and decision support.

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction has expanded its deployment of TASER 10 devices, Axon Body 4 cameras, Fusus, Dedrone and Skydio drones. Axon said the department’s community supervision division resolved 46 of 53 incidents through a show of force alone.
