Utilizing Technology to Address Real-World Homeland Security and Cybersecurity Challenges

Date: Tuesday April 29, 2025 at 2:00pm ET - 1:00pm CT - 11:00am PT

The world of cybersecurity and homeland security continues to change and evolve at a rapid pace. Vast amount of data can help better understand crime and help predict where it might occur. The problem is how to make better use of that data.

That can be done with GIS. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are digital tools used to capture, analyze, and visualize spatial data. Simply put, GIS allows you to map and study patterns, relationships, and trends across geographic areas. In security investigations, technology is used to track crime hotspots, monitor supply chain risks, and analyze movement patterns.

In cybersecurity, GIS can help map digital threats geographically, identifying regions with high cyberattack activity and visualizing network vulnerabilities in relation to physical infrastructure. In homeland security,

This webinar explores the powerful applications of GIS security investigations. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of the technology and how it can be leveraged to solve real-world security challenges. Despite its vast potential, it remains one of the most underutilized tools in security—discover how you can integrate these skills into your organization’s investigative and analytical processes.

Speaker:

Riley Grant
is a senior at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott campus, majoring in Global Security and Intelligence Studies with a specialization in GIS software and applications.

He has applied his GIS expertise in an internship with GeoGentia, where he used mapping and spatial analysis techniques to track sex trafficking networks operating within the United States. His university projects have further demonstrated the power of GIS, including an in-depth analysis of Afghanistan’s opium production and its security implications.

Riley has continued to advance his skills as a student partner for Embry-Riddle’s GIS program, contributing to course design and providing students with a fresh perspective on the integration of GIS and security. His unique ability to bridge the gap between technology and security strategy enables him to deliver valuable insights to decision-makers.
