New Research Recommends Network Behavior Analysis

Mazu Networks, provider of Network Behavior Analysis (NBA) systems, recently announced that the Yankee Group published a research report titled, "Adjust Your Behavior: Network Management Incorporates Behavioral Analysis to Optimize Performance," that details how NBA systems provide the needed visibility into end-user behavior to dramatically improve network operations in addition to security. The research further explains how existing network management tools fail to provide this level of visibility given their focus on infrastructure availability rather than end-user experience and behavior.

"Network operations groups have already begun incorporating behavioral analysis so they can add behavioral context to their existing management systems," said George Hamilton, director of Yankee Group's Enabling Technologies Enterprise Group and research author. "NBA tools can display network activity rolled back in time just prior to a performance event to accelerate root cause analysis and problem resolution. Network administrators still rely on existing network and systems management tools to isolate and apply fixes, but this capability ensures NBA's place in network operations and is sure to intensify competition with other network performance management tools."

According to the research, "the dynamic nature of today's enterprise networks demands greater visibility into behavior so that administrators can optimize the way the business actually works." The research also says that NBA provides this needed visibility of the entire enterprise network, providing the following benefits to both network operations and security:

• An optimized end-user experience
• The ability to manage and monitor meaningful change
• Faster problem resolution
• Effective management of infrastructure change
• Balance between performance and security

The report also explains the value NBA systems can bring to WAN optimization initiatives. With many enterprises struggling to gain an accurate end-to-end picture of WAN performance through the use of existing network management tools, NBA systems can easily provide that needed visibility. While network management tools can only report on traffic from the server to the WAN optimization appliance in the data center, NBA systems provide data on what is actually traversing the WAN. Having this intelligence about all clients and applications on the WAN enables administrators to improve troubleshooting and capacity planning ensuring superior quality of service to end users.

"Our customers have long understood the limitations of existing network operations and security solutions and have counted on Mazu to gain the visibility needed to improve network and application performance in addition to better securing their infrastructures," said Paul Brady, CEO, Mazu Networks. "This research from Yankee speaks to the success our customers have already experienced with Mazu and will help educate other enterprises on the network operations and security benefits they can gain from using NBA."
