Off The Wall, MOOG Space And Defense Group Offer Anti-Ramming Devices

Off the Wall Products and MOOG Space and Defense Group have teamed up to develop anti-ramming devices for perimeter protection.

Two types of K12 bollards will be marketed in the United States and abroad: a fixed bollard and a retractable bollard.

Engineering design work is underway, and with Department of State tests planned for late 2007, the products will have official approval in the coming months. A K12 rated wedge barrier has been tested and accepted by the Department of State.

As the Glasgow Airport attack recently demonstrated, planned vehicle attacks are becoming more commonplace, increasing the need for perimeter protection. The State Department maintains a set of standards for vehicle crash barriers that identify K12-rated bollards and barriers as capable of stopping a 15,000-pound truck traveling at 50 mph.

A fixed-in-place steel bollard is suitable for many applications since protection is assured at all times and there are no moving parts. Off the Wall Products’ fixed bollard design is easy to install because it requires only an 18-inch deep excavation for installation, and due to the fact that its components are all off-the-shelf, and readily available, it is easy to implement. Fixed bollards are desirable in many locations, including airports terminals, Federal buildings, energy-generating plants and oil refineries.

The retractable K12-engineered bollard and the K12 rated wedge barrier feature a precision, highly reliable, electro-mechanical actuation system, designed to raise the bollard or barrier into position in under one second during emergency modes.
