RFID Provides Access Control At Men’s Alpine Ski World Cup
UPM Raflatac has supplied RFID inlays to support personal and vehicle access to the men's FIS Alpine Ski World Cup and Piemonte Mondiale 2009 event in February in Sestriere, Italy.
UPM Raflatac gathered similar positive experiences last year from the women's Alpine Ski World Cup. HF inlays from UPM Raflatac were converted into PVC cards and tags by Italian specialist La Modulistica, and issued and checked by a system implemented by Italian access control specialist Alfi in cooperation with Brightpoint.
At Piemonte Mondiale, all persons authorized by the event organizer were issued with an RFID-enabled plastic ID card carrying their personal data and access rights.
These cards were used by all persons permitted to enter, including press, athletes and invited VIPs, authorities and operators. The same procedure was applied to vehicular access -- authorized vehicles were issued an RFID-enabled ID pass.
People and vehicles were scanned with handheld RFID readers supplied by Brightpoint. Cards and vehicle passes were created and personalized using printers and encoders provided by Alfi, who also took care of general system integration.
