IP Summit A Success At GovSec

Ralph JensenAll in all, GovSec 2009 was a smashing success. Tradeshow organizers from the 1105 Government Information Group put together an incredible show for both GovSec and FOSE.

Security Products magazine was equally successful in planning and coordinating our first ever IP Summit. We look forward to hosting another event in 2010.

Our sessions included border protection, where speakers discussed U.S. infrastructure and the different meanings of security among the 422 million travelers and 132 million vehicles, vessels, trains and aircraft. Attendees heard about challenges of striking a balance between increased security demands and the free flow of trade.

We also discussed securing airport and seaports along with the mandates and security procedures in place help ease vulnerability to terrorist attacks. Our second session addressed technologies that include networked cameras, access control, inspection systems and perimeter protection equipment.

Our third session addressed topics related to protecting buildings with reliable, scalable system that not only services government but also extends protection to tourist sites or facilities that are open to the public. Discussion centered on complete identification and access management not only for employees and tourists, but for vendors, suppliers and service providers entering a facility.

We finished off the IP Summit with a discussion on large-scale crowd management and the challenges that security professionals face in this environment. Crowd management solutions offered included use of video analytics and security foot patrols where access control comes into play.
