Honeywell Releases Security Equipment Specification Tool, Online Training System

Honeywell recently released an enhanced version of its award-winning security equipment specification tool, as well as a new online training and curriculum system. The STAR (Systems Tools and Resources) 3.0 platform allows architects and engineers to determine the best solutions for specific applications by designing simulated security systems.

Additionally, Honeywell’s new Discover online learning management system allows authorized Honeywell integrators and dealers to receive Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credits from the National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA).

Honeywell’s STAR 3.0 specification tool provides all necessary information required for specifying Honeywell intrusion, fire, video and access control products. It is designed for commercial building architects and engineers, commercial security integrators and dealers, sales professionals, security surveillance and loss prevention managers.

“In the past, designers of integrated building systems have relied on their product libraries, which required hours of sorting through books and papers,” said Deborah Paterson, marketing specialist for video systems at Honeywell. “As workloads and complexity of projects increase, security professionals are looking for applications that provide more in-depth analysis to save time. The STAR tool provides vital information for system designers to specify products and create a truly integrated security system.”

Along with Honeywell product specifications, STAR includes links to A&E documents, product and system applications, compliance listings, AutoCAD drawings, access to Honeywell’s online resources and a convenient schematic design tool. Using STAR’s wizards and easy-to-use interface, sales professionals and engineers can easily create a simulated security system on screen.

The Discover online learning management system offers training options ranging from basic TCP/IP e-learning classes to customized onsite training for Honeywell’s popular Pro-Watch® security management suite. Using Discover, students have the ability to register for instruction-led classes and complete prerequisite coursework in their offices or even from the comfort of their own homes.

Many of the courses have been approved by the NBFAA to receive CEU credits, and many more classes will receive accreditation in 2009. Additionally, Honeywell is pursuing approval from the governing bodies in states that do not accept NBFAA certification for CEU credits (Minnesota, New Jersey, North Carolina, Texas and Washington).

“We’re committed to constantly enhancing our training capabilities and user experience,” said Gene Iannaccone, director of technical services for Honeywell. “We believe these new offerings will enhance business for our customers and maximize the value of being a Honeywell security integrator.”

Honeywell will demonstrate STAR 3.0 and Discover at ISC West.
