Looking Ahead

Ralph JensenBy all accounts, ISC West was extremely successful. The first two days, as already mentioned in the previous reports, were busy and fruitful. There may have been fewer attendees, but my thoughts were fewer pen collectors and more interested participants.

Points of interest on the final day of the show included visits with Wolfgang Ritter of Mobotix, who introduced me to the company’s fish-eye lens that, when adjusted, gives a clear image when zoomed in on a subject. Seems like a very nice product for the front door of any home, and certainly a fit for a secure area in a business.

Look for Dedicated Micros to come to market with a revolutionary integrated camera recorder. The company introduced the equipment on day two of ISC West. This will serve the needs of new and existing clients with a two-tier strategy by developing cutting- edge video surveillance technologies that accommodate IP video feeds for the traditional DVR market. It also creates scalable solutions for enterprise applications.

Avigilon also brings an interesting solution to the industry. The company announced its latest version of HD surveillance software -- Avigilon Control Center 4.0 -- that will improve performance and manageability while supporting third-party cameras.

Dave Tynan, the company’s vice president of global sales, said the software further enhances the ability to capture and manage surveillance video, and as an open-enterprise class network software platform it supports IT compliance without compromise.

Coming up, SIA is promoting its Government Summit, June 2-3 in Washington, D.C. Keynote speakers include Rep. Elijah Cummings, (D-Md.) and Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.). The program will be held at the Embassy Suites Washington, D.C. Convention Center Hotel. For more information, contact Tom O’Conner at (703) 647-8483.

Hexagon’s Geosystems presents a portable version of its Accur8vision detection system. A rugged all-in-one solution, the A8V MIND (Mobile Intrusion Detection) is designed to provide flexible protection of critical outdoor infrastructure and objects. Hexagon’s Accur8vision is a volumetric detection system that employs LiDAR technology to safeguard entire areas. Whenever it detects movement in a specified zone, it automatically differentiates a threat from a nonthreat, and immediately notifies security staff if necessary. Person detection is carried out within a radius of 80 meters from this device. Connected remotely via a portable computer device, it enables remote surveillance and does not depend on security staff patrolling the area.
