TSA Names Federal Security Director At JFK Airport

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has named Michael A. Scott as federal security director (FSD) for New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).

As FSD, he will oversee all TSA operations at the airport.

Scott is a 40 year veteran of construction and engineering management. He was responsible for operating budgets in excess of $300 million and capital program budgets of $500 million while employed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, a TSA statement notes.

Scott also directed numerous critical response and recovery operations in the aftermath of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and the 9/11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, and prepared the functional design and concept of operations for the Port Authority’s first Emergency Operations Center and new Central Police Desk, which were put in operation in 2004, according to the statement.

“Mike has most recently overseen TSA operations at LaGuardia, MacArthur and Westchester County airports and the Manhattan Heliports, and this selection formalizes the leadership team at JFK,” Lee Kair, assistant administrator for security operations, said in a statement. “Mike’s skill set and experience are key to the success of our overall operations in New York.”

According to the Aviation and Transportation Security Act, which created TSA in 2001, the FSD is the chief federal security officer at the airport and in the region and the first point of contact when a security issue arises.
