LEGIC Smart Cards Secure Meeting Point At Winter Olympic Games In Vancouver

The “German House” at the Olympic Winter Games is the meeting point for athletes, advisers, officials, journalists and visitors from the worlds of business and politics around the German Olympic team.

Secure and convenient access to the buildings is being provided by an access control system based on the contactless LEGIC advant technology. Personalized cards for up to 12,000 people will enable controlled but flexible access to the buildings at the two sites in Vancouver and Whistler. Several LEGIC partners are responsible for the installation of the access systems and also for personalizing the cards.

Access control systems for major sports events have to meet high standards of security and convenience. The decision by Deutsche Sport-Marketing GmbH to use the secure and flexible LEGIC advant smart card technology in the “German House” takes account of these needs. The German Olympic team, officials, commercial partners and media representatives will all benefit from an advanced security concept and the high convenience of modern contactless identification technology.

The “German House” has been the centre of organization and communication activities for the German Olympic team for more than 20 years. As the host, the Deutscher Olympischer Sportbund (DOSB) uses these facilities for all important events -- such as the daily press conference or looking after journalists.

“It was important for us that visitors of our facilities in Vancouver and Whistler are able to move around in total security, yet be comfortable at the same time,” said Axel Achten, CEO of Deutsche Sport-Marketing GmbH. “The LEGIC advant technology meets our high expectations in terms of security and flexibility”.

“In the environment of the Winter Olympic Games, the theme of access control plays an important role,” said Otto Eggimann, vice president of sales and business development for LEGIC. “By selecting the highly secure LEGIC advant technology, Deutsche Sport-Marketing GmbH has chosen a platform which can be flexibly expanded to include further applications. We are pleased that the technology is being used on this occasion too.”

Snap One has announced its popular Luma x20 family of surveillance products now offers even greater security and privacy for home and business owners across the globe by giving them full control over integrators’ system access to view live and recorded video. According to Snap One Product Manager Derek Webb, the new “customer handoff” feature provides enhanced user control after initial installation, allowing the owners to have total privacy while also making it easy to reinstate integrator access when maintenance or assistance is required. This new feature is now available to all Luma x20 users globally. “The Luma x20 family of surveillance solutions provides excellent image and audio capture, and with the new customer handoff feature, it now offers absolute privacy for camera feeds and recordings,” Webb said. “With notifications and integrator access controlled through the powerful OvrC remote system management platform, it’s easy for integrators to give their clients full control of their footage and then to get temporary access from the client for any troubleshooting needs.”
