University Of North Carolina Improves Security With Access Control System, Integrated Video Solution


The CBORD Group Inc. recently announced that the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is using the CS Gold campus card solution from CBORD and the NiceVision intelligent video solution from NICE Systems to better manage financial, access and other security operations across campus.

UNC uses CS Gold for applications including meal plans, stored value and credit transactions, entitlements, access control, snack and beverage vending, laundry purchases, copy/print purchases, and more. CS Gold also helps UNC tailor its access control to meet the needs of different facilities -- UNC Chapel Hill has installed Handkey II biometric readers to allow student athletes entry into certain athletic facilities without the need to carry a card.

Looking to improve campus security while maximizing its existing investments, the university also selected a NiceVision NVR solution from NICE Systems, a CBORD partner.

The university’s new NiceVision NVR solution integrates with CS Gold to instantly notify UNC security operators of when and where a security breach took place, and automatically display live video from the incident scene. The university, which is expanding its use of video surveillance to new areas on campus, is also migrating to IP cameras. NiceVision NVR gives UNC easy expandability along with a seamless migration path to IP by allowing the university to manage IP and analog cameras through a single, unified interface.

We provide access to academic and administrative buildings and manage parking access for the entire university. We manage camera surveillance, gym memberships, and a host of other activities. Finally, we provide actionable data to a wide variety of stakeholders through the reports we write from the CS Gold database. We touch many areas of our campus through the technology CBORD offers us.”
