It's All Virtual

As the electronic world changes, we also change the way to do business. For several years, the Security Products magazine staff has authored, prepared and sent to you, our readers, electronic newsletters.

We appreciate how they have been received and read.

Now, we’re trying something new. And it’s exciting to say the least.

On Wednesday, Sept. 1, our Security Products and Network-Centric Security staff will present to you our first Virtual Tradeshow. Just like the tradeshows you’re used to attending, you have to register. Here’s the link on a landing page to register for the show, http://www.secprodonline.com/virtualevent.

And, like the tradeshows you’ve attending, there are booths to attend and sponsors who have generously found time and space to bring you their message. First of all, our Gold Sponsors are RSI Video Technologies, DSX Access Control and Milestone Systems. They will be front and center in the conference pavilion.

Our other sponsors include Digital Watchdog,  IC Realtime, Intransa, Moog Inc., Tessco, Verint Systems Inc., Video Insight, Videx and Zebra Technologies. Each booth will have various materials you can download and when you leave the show hall after the day-long event, you won’t be lugging out a briefcase full of heavy papers.

Our program starts at 9:30 a.m. CST with a Webinar talking about standards from PSIA and ONVIF. It also will include a brief presentation from Verint about IP cameras.

At 11 a.m. CST  RSI Video Technologies will present a Webinar, “Securing Remote Assets On a Budget: Affordable Outdoor Security.”

Our keynote address comes at 12:30 p.m. CST with Bill Crews, the director of security and emergency response at the Port of Houston Authority. Maritime security is a big issue these days, and this topic is bound to be well received. Following this keynote event, we are pleased to announce the winners of our 2nd Annual New Product of the Year award.

We’re excited for all the entries because the technology introduced this year is pretty amazing. We’re happy for the winners and anxious to present the awards.

Our afternoon session kicks off at 2 p.m. CST with a webinar on Video management software, after which we conclude with a final webinar at 3:30 p.m. CST on cloud computing and storage.

Take time to register and plan to attend our first virtual tradeshow. I promise it will be worth your time and effort.

  • The Evolution of IP Camera Intelligence

As the 30th anniversary of the IP camera approaches in 2026, it is worth reflecting on how far we have come. It did something that no analog system could: transmit video over a standard IP network. Read Now

  • From Surveillance to Intelligence

Years ago, it would have been significantly more expensive to run an analytic like that — requiring a custom-built solution with burdensome infrastructure demands — but modern edge devices have made it accessible to everyone. It also saves time, which is a critical factor if a missing child is involved. Video compression technology has played a critical role as well. Over the years, significant advancements have been made in video coding standards — including H.263, MPEG formats, and H.264—alongside compression optimization technologies developed by IP video manufacturers to improve efficiency without sacrificing quality. The open-source AV1 codec developed by the Alliance for Open Media—a consortium including Google, Netflix, Microsoft, Amazon and others — is already the preferred decoder for cloud-based applications, and is quickly becoming the standard for video compression of all types.
