Florida Law Enforcement Using Solution To Enhance Mobile Biometric ID Programs

Cross Match Technologies Inc., a global provider of biometric identity solutions, is delivering its Mobile Rapid ID solution to local law enforcement in Martin County, Fla.

The Cross Match Mobile Rapid ID solution enhances mobile biometric identification programs for law enforcement agencies seeking to quickly verify subjects' identities in the field. The system includes the Cross Match Verifier Mw, which is the first SAP Level 30, FBI-certified device for mobile fingerprint capture, and Rapid ID software. Designed for wireless mobile fingerprint capture, Rapid ID delivers standards-based, forensic-quality images.

"Using wireless technology, Rapid ID transfers fingerprint data to a host device, such as a Mobile Data Terminal (MDT)," said Mike Oehler, vice-president of product management for mobile biometrics at Cross Match. "The biometric data can then be submitted to AFIS for fingerprint identification and the search results are displayed on the scanner."

Currently, Rapid ID is in use by the Martin County Sheriff's Office, helping law enforcement officials prevent, investigate and solve crimes.

"We have been using Rapid ID for a number of weeks now as part of our law enforcement program," said Martin County Sheriff Robert L. Crowder. "The units are being utilized by narcotics detectives, community policing deputies and road patrol personnel. On several occasions, Rapid ID has aided personnel in determining the true identities of suspects and in one case, identified a subject with an open warrant. We have found that the handheld units provide us with the information we need anywhere in the field."
