ASIS NYC Security Expo To Honor Heroism Of 9/11 First Responders
In observance of the 10th anniversary of 9/11/01, the New York City Chapter of ASIS International (ASIS) will recognize the sacrifice and heroism of the members of the New York City Police Department (NYPD), the New York City Fire Department (FDNY), and the Port Authority Police Department (PAPD) at its Person of the Year Luncheon on Thursday, May 12 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. The special luncheon is held annually in conjunction with the ASIS NYC Security Expo.
The ASIS New York City Chapter’s Person of the Year Award honors an individual or group who has contributed to the safety and security of New York City over the prior year. In remembrance of the police officers and firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11 and in recognition of the continuing efforts of each of these three departments to maintain the safety and security of New York City, the chapter is honored to present this year’s award to NYPD Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly, FDNY Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano, and PAPD Superintendent Michael A. Fedorko.
“There is no greater sacrifice than to lose one’s life in the service of others. With this award, we honor the memory of those who fell and the dedication of those who live today with illnesses and disabilities resulting from their acts of heroism on that history-changing day,” said ASIS NYC Chapter Chair Kevin O’Brien. “We also commend the innovative men and women of the NYPD, FDNY, and the PAPD for their tireless efforts to mitigate potential risks which threaten our communities each and every day.”
The Person of the Year Luncheon, themed “Remembrance and Thanks”, will begin at noon in the Grand Ballroom of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. Luncheon tickets, which include a pre-luncheon cocktail reception beginning at 11:30 a.m., may be purchased online for $75 per person, or on-site on May 12. Reservations for tables of 10 will also be accepted in advance for $750.
Those who purchase tickets for the luncheon may also enjoy complimentary registration to the 21st Annual Security Expo, which will be held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Guests may visit the exhibit floor beginning at 9:00 a.m., and attend the free opening seminar session entitled “What Now?” at 9:30 a.m. before the luncheon.
The Expo will conclude with an hour-long cocktail reception offering door prizes beginning at 3:30 p.m. Online and on-site registration are also available for the Expo. The one-day, free event is the largest regional show in the security industry -- drawing more than 3,000 security practitioners, corporate decision-makers and law enforcement personnel from Maine to Alabama.
