Research: Fire Service Industry Heading In New Direction Thanks To IP Networks
Fire service industry heads in a new direction thanks to IP networks. In its latest fire publication, IMS Research draws reference to a number of technicians beginning to leverage IP networks to service fire products remotely, increasing efficiency and quality at the same time.
Report author and market analyst Justin Siller comments, “The uptake of IP within the fire industry has stalled in recent years for several reasons. Heavily regulated, the fire industry has not been able to keep pace with technology, and current codes and standards do not address the use of IP for fire products. Furthermore, fire systems play such an important role in life safety that any network downtime or failure could result in the loss of life”.
“Barriers such as these can be overcome with effective market education and a push from respective regulatory bodies. By utilizing IP, service technicians are able to perform tests and corrective maintenance from remote locations, diagnosing problems much faster. Then when arriving on-site the technician can have the correct part that needs to be replaced, thus improving productivity and customer satisfaction”.
Visual inspections will always be needed, but IP networks present a real chance at altering the future of the fire services market.
