King Abdulaziz International Airport Secure with Avigilon HD Surveillance System

Avigilon, the provider in high definition (HD) and megapixel video surveillance solutions, recently announced that King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA), Saudi Arabia's third largest airport, has deployed the Avigilon HD Surveillance System in 13 parking lots, terminal lobbies, duty free shops, retail market, restaurants and coffee shops to capture, review, and store indisputable evidence for quick and successful investigations, and management.

"The Avigilon HD Surveillance System gives us the tools to effectively review and take appropriate action as quickly as possible to resolve conflicts and secure parking lots, terminal lobbies, duty free shops, restaurants, retail market, and coffee shops," said Adel Safadi, manager of CCTV & Video Analytics Systems at Al Musbah Trading Group, who is responsible for the Avigilon HD Surveillance System at KAIA. "Using Avigilon Control Center software, we can retrieve superior evidence at a phenomenal speed-the search capabilities are truly unrivaled."

A total of 274 Avigilon HD cameras ranging from 1 MP to 16 MP provide complete coverage of the airport's parking lots, terminal lobbies, duty free shops, restaurants, retail market and coffee shops. All Avigilon HD cameras are streamed and monitored around the clock in the airport's state-of-the-art control room. Security personnel manage the Avigilon HD Surveillance System using Avigilon Control Center Enterprise Network Video Management Software (NVMS) with HD Stream Management, which was built from the ground up to manage HD surveillance video.

With the Avigilon HD Surveillance System installed, security officers can easily navigate and manage its 274 cameras, delivering irrefutable evidence to facilitate investigations, monitor inventory levels, and ensure best practices in all covered areas. The airport lowered installation and labor costs by reducing the number of cameras required from 2,100 analog-based cameras to just over 274 Avigilon HD cameras. Leveraging Avigilon's use of JPEG 2000 compression technology and High Definition Stream Management technology, KAIA was also able to achieve superior image quality with minimal network bandwidth requirements.

"The Avigilon HD Surveillance System delivers high image quality, ease-of-management, and reliability to ensure fast and accurate resolution of incidents in the airport's covered areas," said Keith Marett, director of marketing and communications at Avigilon. "At the same time, the airport has been able to lower installation and management costs, along with bandwidth requirements, for greater operational efficiencies."

  • Gaining a Competitive Edge

Ask most companies about their future technology plans and the answers will most likely include AI. Then ask how they plan to deploy it, and that is where the responses may start to vary. Every company has unique surveillance requirements that are based on market focus, scale, scope, risk tolerance, geographic area and, of course, budget. Those factors all play a role in deciding how to configure a surveillance system, and how to effectively implement technologies like AI. Read Now

  • The Stage is Set

The security industry spans the entire globe, with manufacturers, developers and suppliers on every continent (well, almost—sorry, Antarctica). That means when regulations pop up in one area, they often have a ripple effect that impacts the entire supply chain. Recent data privacy regulations like GDPR in Europe and CPRA in California made waves when they first went into effect, forcing businesses to change the way they approach data collection and storage to continue operating in those markets. Even highly specific regulations like the U.S.’s National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) can have international reverberations – and this growing volume of legislation has continued to affect global supply chains in a variety of different ways.
