What's on that Platform?

HP has announced an integrated platform of risk-driven security solutions that provides enterprises clear visibility across traditional, mobile and cloud environments, and enables the ability to apply adaptive security defenses based on specific organizational risks.

The idea being of how to elevate to a level of business risk.

As you are well aware, modern security threats are increasingly complex, featuring multiple attack vectors that target traditional, mobile and cloud environments. As organizations extend infrastructures, IT managers require the same level of security controls and safeguards as those that protect their internal infrastructures. These challenges make it crucial for enterprises to understand how best to manage and prioritize security risks across their diverse IT landscapes.

The application is germaine to the physical security world in that it is critical to ensure that there is an anti-virus on the server, that, for instance, plays a role with video surveillance, servers, storage and systems management. In short, the server needs to be secure. When IT security plays its role, the server is found, locked down and a password is placed in its proper role.

“It is important to address what is good for business,” said Michael Callahan, vice president of product and solution marketing at HP Enterprise Security. “You have to address the biggest priority in the enterprise and see where the risk might be. The overarching solution is how to stop an attack.”

Callahan said it’s important to get away from the point to point firefight, and take action based on priorities.

“As long as they [systems administrators] know there is a problem, they can take action,” Callahan said.

“Today’s attacks are so complex and difficult to detect, a traditional approach to security just can’t provide the level of insight necessary to secure the extended enterprise,” said Tom Reilly, vice president and general manager, Enterprise Security Products, HP. “The HP Security Intelligence and Risk Management platform offers visibility into diverse security environments as well as contextual intelligence to proactively manage risk from applications to network -- and IT governance.”

Wednesday at the RSA Conference was well attended and though I thought I would explore the dynamics of the cloud, HP brings a compelling and interesting proposition to the table about server security.
