RedCloud Awarded Patent for Technology that Integrates Physical, Logical Security Systems

RedCloud, formerly known as PlaSec, today announced that it has been awarded a new patent by the US Patent Office, recognizing and protecting core, underlying technology and intellectual property pioneered by RedCloud that enables the integration and convergence of physical and logical security systems.

Patent no. 8,122,497, “Networked Physical Security Access Control System and Method,” covers foundational RedCloud technology, development and implementation frameworks that allow access control appliances to consistently maintain, replicate and share identity, policy and system configuration information among distributed and redundant network appliances.

“RedCloud’s revolutionary access control platform was engineered from the ground up by IT and security veterans to seamlessly integrate with logical identity and security information management systems,” said Dave Basil, Chief Executive Officer, RedCloud. “This patent recognition reaffirms the groundbreaking vision of our technology platform and further extends RedCloud’s industry-leading convergence capabilities.”

RedCloud’s Convergence Platform and Security Management Software is the industry’s first -- and remains the only -- web-based, physical access control system (PACS) that synchronizes identities, roles and policies across all peer-to-peer network appliances and door controllers in real-time. This patented approach ensures security settings are always up-to-date with Identity Access Management (IAM) and Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems and correlates physical and logical security event information throughout the enterprise to form a unified cyber-security response to system alarms, policy alerts and unauthorized activities.

“The ability to manage identities, set policy and report activity across physical and logical security systems is the future of access control,” said Terry Neely, President, Founder and CTO, RedCloud. “This patent is a watershed moment in the growth of our company, validating many years of hard work, dedication and commitment to reducing industry-wide barriers to convergence and is personally very rewarding.”

Unlike legacy, client/server-based physical access control systems, RedCloud’s patented, webbased access control network appliance system eliminates the need to support and maintain separate, standalone application and database servers, enabling organizations of all sizes to secure their facilities, people and assets at anytime, anywhere from any standard web browser.

RedCloud’s Security Management Software runs on the RedCloud Convergence Platform and is available on all of RedCloud’s web-based, access control network appliances, including RedCloud Express, RedCloud Enterprise and RedCloud Virtual, all of which are exclusively available through a nationwide network of authorized integrators.
