From the IT Perspective

Video surveillance as a network service continues to grow and presents expanded opportunities for silicon solutions. But the integration of security systems in distributed networks creates challenges for IT professionals. The management of event data and requirements for video across disparate networks and viewing devices also present unique system architecture challenges.

Conexant, a provider of video solutions for security, surveillance, and monitoring, delivers a range of silicon solutions for expanded networked video surveillance. Multichannel video and audio decoder solutions support integrated DVR and NVR systems and include features such as motion detection for wake-on-event recording, providing power and video storage savings.

The demand for image and video data in remote monitoring also continues to grow. Low-power camera solutions are used in remote monitoring sensor applications. These video sensors help to reduce false-alarm events through video verification. They also allow providers to offer consumers additional video services such as remote viewing on smartphones or other devices.

These systems require very low standby power, onboard memory storage and motion/PIR sensor detection to balance network performance to monitoring stations or viewing devices. They also interface to various networks and require the capability to easily interface to disparate network radios and controllers.

In networked surveillance systems, there is also interest to integrate these systems with other security systems, including building automation and IP intercom systems. These present additional opportunities for solutions that support full-duplex, low-latency video and advanced audio functions such as echo cancellation and far-field pickup. Networked surveillance systems require new capabilities to manage, record, distribute and view critical data, and they will continue to present growth opportunities.
