Staggering Death Toll in Connecticut School Shooting

The world of Newtown, Conn. was rattled early Friday morning as an active shooter entered the Sandy Hook Elementary School, gunning down a reported 20 students and 7 adults in what can only be described as a massacre.

The suspect, Adam Lanza, 20 was also killed by a self-inflicted gunshot. It has been reported that he was carrying four weapons, clad in black clothing and equipped with a bulletproof vest. His mother was a teacher at the elementary school. She is among those dead.

Police are continuing to investigate if there is a second shooter involved in the incident.

Various reports state that the shooting began in the building’s main office around 9:40 a.m. Classes at Sandy Hook Elementary begin at 9:05 a.m.

Newtown has a population of about 27,000 residents, and is located in the western part of Connecticut. There are believed to be about 600 students that attend the elementary school.
