ESX Welcomes Newtown Police Chief Michael Kehoe

ESX Welcomes Newtown Police Chief Michael KehoeThe Electronic Security Expo (ESX) proudly welcomes Newtown, Conn. Police Chief Michael Kehoe, as the featured speaker of its Industry IceBreaker Luncheon, held Tuesday, June 18 at 12:00 p.m.

In times of tragedy — as we were reminded last week in Boston — our public safety officials react. In December 2012, Police Chief Michael Kehoe had the extremely difficult job of reacting to an elementary school scene that no one could have imagined.

“This day — that scene—will always be present in my mind,” Kehoe told CBS News.

With compassion and incredible poise, he led the town, the community and the nation through the somber days that followed.

“Now we’re a little bit stronger. We’re a little bit wiser,” he told WFSB News' Robert Goulston in February. “No matter how tough it gets out there, we’re here to help, and we’re here to serve, and we’ll do what we can.”

During the luncheon that moves the partnership between public safety and private security forward, we will ask, “How do we best work together? How do we best equip our public safety officials to respond to danger?”

“We’re extremely proud to welcome Chief Kehoe to ESX’s Industry IceBreaker Luncheon,” said ESX Chair George De Marco. “I look forward to hearing his thoughts on how the public and private safety sectors can work together to protect our most precious assets: our families — our children.”

Kehoe, who has been the Newtown Conn. Police Chief since 2001, is chairman of the Statewide Narcotics Task Force Policy Board, a member of the Connecticut Coalition for Drug Endangered Children, and the board co-chair of the Newtown Prevention Council.

"I'm glad to participate in the Industry IceBreaker Luncheon at ESX this June," said Chief Kehoe. "It's important that we, in the public and private safety sectors, continue to find new ways to work together to help secure and protect our communities."

Chief Kehoe has also served as the president of the Fairfield County’s Chiefs of Police Association and served on the board of directors of the Connecticut Police Chiefs Association as vice president.

The Industry IceBreaker Luncheon will host the presentation of the Security Industry Alarm Coalition (SIAC) William N. Moody Award, which will recognize a volunteer who has demonstrated exemplary leadership and dedication in maximizing false dispatch reduction across North America, as well as the 2012 PDQ Award, presented by Security Sales and Integration magazine that recognizes the security company that best demonstrates a proactive and cooperative effort to reduce unnecessary alarm dispatches.

It is also home to the ESA Youth Scholarship Award, sponsored by Vivint, who has contributed a donation of $10,000. These added funds, matching the existing donation of ESA, will allow the association to award $10,000 to the first-place winner, $5,000 for second place, $3,500 for third and $1,500 for fourth.

The ESX Industry IceBreaker Luncheon is sponsored by Security Sales and Integration magazine.
