Ingersoll Rand Highlighting Campus Security Successes at Housing Facilities Conference

Ingersoll Rand Highlighting Campus Security Successes at Housing Facilities ConferenceDuring the Critical Facilities Summit sponsored by the Association of College and University Officers-International (ACUHO-I) and APPA, whose tagline is “Leadership in Educational Facilities,” to be held at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence October 15-18, attendees will be able to discuss campus safety and security success stories with Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies school experts. They can learn how Ingersoll Rand solutions are providing colleges and universities the opportunity to improve security and safety while leveraging one-card systems to deliver student convenience and drive new sources of revenue from vending, retail and meal plan applications. Ingersoll Rand has alliances and integrations with the leading one-card providers, including CBORD, Blackboard and Heartland.

“Since many campuses are also like small cities, we can also discuss how Ingersoll Rand is helping to secure critical facilities such as banks, data centers, hospitals and other institutions also often found on college campuses,” explained April Dalton-Noblitt, Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies director, vertical markets. “It’s important to note that a college campus is not a ‘one size fits all’ security challenge. Each and every access point throughout the campus may call for a specific solution that will ultimately fit under one integrated umbrella.”

In one of the more exciting security applications on campus, attendees can learn how Villanova and the University of San Francisco student and faculty have been using their personal mobile phones to enter dorms, classroom buildings and offices. This has made it ultra-convenient for students to manage their university credentials plus saved time and money for the administrative staff. They can discuss how these systems issue access credentials virtually to student phones and how the students perceive this innovative way of using access control and other campus features, such as using the laundry, that are normally associated with physical smart cards or student credentials.

They can also find out how Miami University was able to replace an assortment of mechanical locks on more than 4,000 residence room and other doors with electronic locks and smart card credentials during a 90-day summer break. Schlage AD-400 wireless locks and Schlage aptiQ contactless smart card credentials provide a “secure handshake” between the card and reader with the added ability to handle one-card point-of-sale (POS) functions such as dining, laundry and vending. In addition, the solution monitors door props electronically and manages lockouts while also providing short-term access with an audit trail for staff.
