HTC Announces $199 RE Camera

HTC Announces $199 RE CameraHTC has officially announced their plans for the RE Camera, according to a report. The RE Camera is a small device shaped like a PVC Pipe or a toothbrush and features a single button on the front for slow motion video as well as another on the back for capturing photos and video. The strangest part of the camera is that it doesn’t have a viewfinder – users have to point the camera towards the action and take a shot.

You can however use your phone as a viewfinder, although that requires looking away from the device. There is a tripod available for the unit, but it is made out of plastic. The camera itself features a 16M sensor with 146-degree wide-angle lens. HTC says the sensor is capable of taking 1080p video at 30 fps or slow motions 720p video at 120 fps.

The camera battery is capable of recording 1,200 stills per charge or up to one hour and forty minutes of 1080p video before giving out. An 8GB microSD card is included in the box, and up to 128GB is supported.

The camera is viewed by some to be an attempt to enter the same market as the GoPro. It will retail for $199 when it launches this month.
