Video Footage May Prove Unethical Behavior on Tradeshow Floor

As attendees walk by the Samsung washing machines displayed at a September trade show in Berlin, a video camera is poised, ready to record all interactions with the appliances. In what has been a luxury laundry dispute for months now, Jo Seong-jin, head of LG’s home appliances division, has been accused of damaging four Samsung Crystal Blue washing machines at this show and Samsung claims they have the video evidence to prove it.

Initially, LG said that they would pay for the damage, but instead, Samsung filed a lawsuit citing property damage and defamation. LG responded with a countersuit of their own in addition to releasing surveillance video to the court of public opinion. LG says that the video does show Jo and other LG employees inspecting Samsung’s appliances, but they are in plain sight of a uniformed guard.

LG’s lawyer feels that there is not enough evidence to convict LG of Samsung’s claims and LG told the Wall Street Journal that they can’t be held responsible for less than par craftsmanship.

“Unlike washing machines from other companies, a certain company’s washing machine model was particularly weak on the hinges.”

Prosecutors recently held a mediation between LG and Samsung to avoid going to trial, but it was not successful.
