$5 Million Gold Bar Heist

$5 Million Gold Bar Heist

It was concerning when a truck carrying $5 million in gold bars made an unscheduled stop while travelling along a North Carolina interstate highway. Rerouting to a rather secluded stretch of highway, the driver stopped the truck, allowing the crew to get out of the vehicle. The reason for stopping? Well, the crew told authorities that strong gasoline fumes was making them sick. Seems logical; however, the mechanic found no issues with the truck and the crew also left their firearms behind when they exited the truck. This was in direct violation of their employer’s security rules.

As the investigation proceeded, one detective realized that this could have been an “inside job,” as the heist was targeted and planned. You see, the robbers even put out orange traffic cones whey they unloaded 275 pounds of gold from the truck. In addition, the truck was “robbed” immediately after it pulled over and it bared no external markings indicating what cargo was inside.

The truck company is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest
