LILIN Video Surveillance Plays Vital Role in Flood Defense Plan in Venice

Advanced security cameras by LILIN have been integrated with the MOSE (MOdulo Sperimentale Elettromeccanico, Experimental Electromechanical Module) anti-flood project intended to protect the city of Venice, Italy, and the Venetian Lagoon from flooding and prevent the further rise of the sea level.

Venice suffers from flooding on a yearly basis. In 1966, nearly eighty percent of the city was submerged by the Great Flood that served as catalyst for MOSES. Known as the "acqua alta" or high water, these tides bring sea waters that spill into the streets of Venice. Floods have caused damage since ancient times in Venice yet have become ever more frequent and intense as a result of a rise in sea level and a drop in the land level caused by natural and man-induced phenomena.

The $7.3 billion MOSE barrier project is designed to maintain high tides from reaching the city. The completed barriers would only be mobilized to block the most extreme flooding, starting when high tide pushes the sea more than 43 inches above a specified point. During flooding, when the water reaches above normal levels, the 78 mobile gates spring into action. The modular gates, when filled with water, rest on the seafloor. They are raised by filling them with compressed air.

Video surveillance plays an important role in the disaster-monitoring process, as real-time monitoring of key areas of water is a must. LILIN was selected to be a part of MOSE due to the exceptional performance of LILIN's mechanical housings against corrosion, as well as the cameras' powerful built-in IR solutions. LILIN security cameras are suitable for applications in a variety of harsh environments, including those vulnerable to tide peaks and sea corrosion.

In all, MOSE features 57 LILIN IP Cameras (LR7428EX3.6), four Multi-Touch 16-Channel Standalone NVRs, five 8-Port 130W Network PoE Switches, six Vandal-Resistant WDR 650TVL Speed Dome Cameras, and a 16-Channel Standalone DVR with Multi-Function 3D Keyboard Controller.

LILIN solutions also serve to help monitor the flood-prone Lido Lagoon Inlet area. Multiple LILIN L Series IP Cameras and Waterproof Speed Dome Cameras are installed at key locations around the lagoon to watch over water levels.

LILIN is very proud to be a part of this monumental MOSE project and is honored to provide long-term video surveillance to the city of Venice. The MOSE project is now well-equipped for any coming floods with the help of a complete video surveillance system provided by LILIN.
