Direct From the Show Floor

As journalists attending ASIS, we get numerous press releases concerning services, technology and new products that will be on display. It is shame we can't share everything we receive with you. And, it's too bad there is not enough time to visit every booth on the show floor.

In our first ASIS Enews, my editors and I picked out our Top 10 booths to visit. This means that these are technologies that caught our eye. There are many more booths with incredible technology to pursue.

"Biometric technologies are the right approach to address today's security challenges, from unlocking smartphones to managing facility access. Iris recognition, in particular, is known to be a more stable and accurate identifier than other available technologies –orders of magnitude more accurate than fingerprint readers and with lower error rates," said Mark Clifton, CEO of newly named Princeton Identity Inc. "Fast, easy and accurate identity confirmation is critical for user acceptance in every market application. We are pleased that Samsung selected our iris recognition technology for global consumer use and are confident that additional applications will quickly follow."

Princeton Identity Inc. has announced an agreement to license their patented iris recognition technology to Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. for use in the new Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and other mobile devices. This agreement with Princeton Identity builds on the company's track record of delivering leading-edge biometric identity readers and identity management systems for a range of government and commercial applications. The company is a recent spinoff from SRI International.

ASSA ABLOY really understands that professionals in the end-user community have limited time at tradeshows and conferences, yet they need to stay informed of the relevant innovations and new products available. Custom tours will be available during ASIS 2016, and an end user can take a tour that addresses specific ideas, needs and challenges.

"We value our customers' time," said Heidi Pascale, director of corporate events at ASSA ABLOY door security solutions. "The new Innovation Tour Experience is designed to efficiently provide customers with the focused information they need to solve their specific safety, security and access challenges."

Having security access on a web browser is nothing new but System Surveyor has announced the addition of a drag and drop capability on any networked device with a web browser. You might want to swing by the System Surveyor booth because end users deploying this device has reported a time savings of at least 50 percent in system design and improve efficiencies.

"We've had a tremendous demand for System Surveyor for laptops, Android and Surface devices above and beyond iPad," said Lisa Hugman, co-founder at System Surveyor. "This new release allows anyone to seamlessly, securely work on their security system plans in a consistent way across any device, no matter where they are located."

Dahua Technology USA will be bringing 4MP cameras to ASIS, and though a 4K camera has been introduced before, these products will re-empower coax cabling with superior image quality.

"As a pioneer in HD analog technology, Dahua is dedicated to developing solutions that bring high-quality video to aging coax cabling systems," said Tim Wang, CEO of Dahua Technology USA. "Once again, we're breaking new ground with the introduction of our HDCVI 3.0 MP camera line."

All in all, these three days should be filled with plenty of new technology and more promising ideas and innovations.
