Orlando Workplace Shooting Leaves 5 Dead

Orange County Sheriff’s Office confirmed five people were killed in a workplace violence incident in Orlando, Florida.

Five people were shot and killed in a workplace violence incident on Monday morning, June 5 at a business in Orlando, Florida.

Orange County Sheriff’s Office confirmed they received a 911 call of an active shooter at the Fiamma business at 8:03 a.m. local time and were able to respond to the building in less than two minutes.

When police arrived on the scene, they found 3 males deceased and a female deceased. A forth male was taken to the hospital, but later died from his injuries. Seven people survived the incident.

Police confirmed that the suspect was a 45-year-old former employee of the business who had been fired in April of this year. Police confirmed that the suspect died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The suspect had on him a gun and a knife at the time of the shooting but there was no indication that the knife had been used.

His record showed that he had been part of a workplace violence incident before when he and a college had gotten into a skirmish at work. Police confirmed that employee was not killed during the shooting.

Sheriff’s deputies confirmed that there had not been any previous threats towards the place of business and that they are still trying to gather information on how the suspect entered into the building and if the victims were chosen or shot at random.

Orlando is just one week away from the one year anniversary of a terrorist attack at Pulse Nightclub that killed 49 people and wounded 53 others on June 12, 2016. Despite the anniversary and the terror events overseas in London, police were able to ensure the incident was not related to terrorism.

As a result of the violence in Orlando, police have announced that they will be beefing up security in the city the day before, on the day of and the day after the anniversary of the nightclub shooting to ensure the city is safe.
