Connecticut Park Increases Security with Gates Surveillance Cameras

Local park sees security increase following costly renovations.

A park in New Milford, Conn. will be more secure starting next summer after the addition of security gates and surveillance cameras.

The Town Council approved spending $70,500 on the new security measures for Lynn Deming Park. The new improvements will address some of the concerns raised during a 4th of July party where people without passes made it onto the grounds during the event.

The work includes installing two entrance and exit gates that will come with pass stickers linked to special technology that will automatically open the gates, as well as track the people who enter and exit. There will also be the addition of security cameras that will be installed at the gates as well as around the park.

The cameras will act as a way to protect the town from liabilities as well as record the cars' license plates and evidence in the case of a crime at the park.

The park will continue to have at least one security guard on side 24 hours a day from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

The security measures come after the town invested $1.2 million in renovating the park. The Town Council believe protecting the investment with new security measures is the best way to move forward.
