ASIS International, a leading authority in security standards, is excited to announce the release of its American National Standards Institute (ANSI)-approved standard designed to provide a framework for developing, implementing, maintaining, and improving school security. The first comprehensive standard of its kind provides a critical benchmark for assessing and improving a school’s security posture regardless of size and funding.
The first initiative as partners included a joint fundraising campaign to enhance school safety, generating $42,000 for Safe and Sound Schools programs.

Colin Gray, the father of the 14-year-old Georgia school shooting suspect, has also been charged in connection with the attack. The 54-year-old father was charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder and eight counts of cruelty to children. More charges are expected.

Public anxieties about school safety are escalating across the country. According to a 2023 Gallup report, 44% of parents fear for their child’s physical safety at school, a 10 percentage-point increase since 2019. Unfortunately, these fears are likely to increase if the incidence of school tragedies continues to mount. As a result, school leaders are now charged with two non-negotiable responsibilities. The first, as always, is to ensure kids have what they need to learn, grow, and thrive. Sadly, their second responsibility is to keep the children in their care safe from threats and physical danger.

In a perfect world, every school would have an unlimited budget to help secure their schools. In reality, schools must prioritize what budget they have while navigating the complexities surrounding school security and lockdown.
Christ’s Hospital School has a long history. It first opened its doors to 380 pupils in November 1552, at that time located in Newgate Street, London. In 2022 the school needed to replace their now obsolete security system with a new solution that would be simple to manage while maintaining the security of the site, staff, and pupils.
As students continue to live more digitally, understanding what they’re posting should be an important part of any school security plan. A Tuesday GSX education session, “School Safety in 2023: Three Proven Concepts That Save Lives with Realistic, Affordable, and Modern Applications,” emphasized how a digital footprint can be used to better assess the seriousness of any threats.

Just yesterday (as of this writing), it happened again. A 28-year-old woman shot her way into a Christian elementary school in Nashville, Tenn., on Monday and killed three children and three adults, according to national news. AP News reports that the victims were three 9-year-old children, a top school administrator, a substitute teacher, and a school custodian
