The post-recession access control market has inspired new trends, while others have slowed. As Asia continues its quest for the latest technology, and smart card adoption continues to grow in EMEA, the Americas has emerged as the forerunner for SaaS and Web-based access control systems.
McAfee, Inc. recently released new research, finding that mid-sized organizations have seen increased attacks on their networks and systems since last year, according to the McAfee report The Security Paradox.
Pivot3 Inc. announced recently its technology has been deployed as the combined server/storage platform for the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (Florida) video surveillance implementation, which aims to reduce violent behavior, catch repeat offenders and increase security in designated hotspots.
What’s the first thing you think of when going to a security tradeshow? Maybe cameras, recorders and the ability to burn a CD of what’s taking place. You probably thought the same thing, but it never cross the mind of an alleged ring of criminals.

Nearly 10 years after 9/11, a video depicting the terrorist attacks of that day still had a sobering effect on a crowded room of security professionals. It’s a day that many will never forget and a Thursday session at ASIS 2010 was dedicated to reflecting back and discussing what has changed.

Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, celebrated his 39th birthday again yesterday. Doesn’t have much to do with security, but Stanley Black and Decker, along with Stanley Commercial Security Solutions brought at least 500 of their closest friends to Cowboy Stadium Wednesday night to help celebrate the occasion.

The Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) program is more important now than ever. That was the message Wednesday from Sue Armstrong, director of the Department of Homeland Security’s Infrastructure Security Compliance Division, in her update of the CFATS program at ASIS Wednesday.

Working in the security industry has changed me for the better. Being exposed to such state-of-the-art, game-changing technology has enlightened me, meeting such passionate and intelligent people have inspired me and being embraced by the industry has humbled me. And mostly, being welcomed by the Dark Restaurant Society has made me feel extremely privileged to work in such a fascinating industry with such esteemed colleagues.
