Wireless Mesh System To Be Deployed For Video Surveillance, Communications At Beijing Olympics

Strix Systems recently announced that its Access/One Outdoor Wireless Systems (OWS) and integrated high performance Personal Mobile Command (PMC) communication systems are being deployed for emergency response vehicles and tactical mobile communications for public safety at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

Silicon-Star Science & Technology Development Co. Ltd and Beijing Aerospace Changfeng Co., Ltd., partnered in the design and integration of the PMC which delivers ongoing mesh continuity and instantaneous triangulation between public safety vehicles and security personnel strategically dispatched around the Olympic Stadium and downtown Beijing during the Olympic Games in August.

Strix Access/One modular technology is integrated into the PMC’s which are small, portable, hardened wearable units that establish high-speed, low-latency, pervasive mobile wireless broadband network communications between each other and emergency command vehicles.

Attached to public safety personnel via a small body-worn harness or belt, the PMC’s perform the services of a comprehensive mobile communications center with integrated wireless broadband and satellite access for live on-scene video surveillance and personal video/voice communications.

Emergency response command and public safety vehicles are deployed with Strix Access/One OWS nodes providing a mix of up to six high power 802.11 a, b, g, j and 4.9 GHz (DSRC-C) radios configured for access or backhaul as needed depending on the project.

“We needed to deliver a complete and stable mobile video/data/voice communications solution for public safety at the Olympics,” said Mr. Zhou, CTO of Beijing Aerospace Changfeng Co. Ltd. “We chose Strix because it delivered high bandwidth with excellent coverage over a continuous moving mesh network while streaming video surveillance and multimedia collaboration between personnel.”

    A8V MIND

Hexagon’s Geosystems presents a portable version of its Accur8vision detection system. A rugged all-in-one solution, the A8V MIND (Mobile Intrusion Detection) is designed to provide flexible protection of critical outdoor infrastructure and objects. Hexagon’s Accur8vision is a volumetric detection system that employs LiDAR technology to safeguard entire areas. Whenever it detects movement in a specified zone, it automatically differentiates a threat from a nonthreat, and immediately notifies security staff if necessary. Person detection is carried out within a radius of 80 meters from this device. Connected remotely via a portable computer device, it enables remote surveillance and does not depend on security staff patrolling the area.
