Mission 500 Seeks Nominations for CSR Award

Mission 500, a non-profit initiative focusing on the security industry and dedicated to serving the needs of children and communities in crisis, is seeking applicants for the 2011 “Mission 500 CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Award”. The Award will be presented at a special cocktail reception on April 7, 2011 during ISC West in Las Vegas.

The purpose of the Mission 500 CSR Award is to honor companies in the security industry who make important contributions to those in need. The judging criteria will include an assessment of applicants’ CSR programs as they relate to:

  • effectiveness in impacting the communities they focus on,
  • involvement of their personnel,
  • sustainability andlong term impact,
  • activities involved beyond financial contributions.

Any company in the security industry can be nominated. A judging panel will evaluate all applicants based on the above mentioned criteria and their respective contributions toward social causes.

During the same event, Mission 500 will also present its “Humanitarian Award,” designed to honor individuals in the security industry who make important contributions to those in need. The 2010 recipient, Alan Forman, exemplified this through his involvement with numerous charitable organizations.

Mission 500 is also hosting its second 5K charity run at ISC West on April 7. The Security 5K / Mission 500 Charity Run is the first charity-driven event at an ISC Expo conceived to engage corporate sponsors as well as individuals within the industry. • From Surveillance to Intelligence

Years ago, it would have been significantly more expensive to run an analytic like that — requiring a custom-built solution with burdensome infrastructure demands — but modern edge devices have made it accessible to everyone. It also saves time, which is a critical factor if a missing child is involved. Video compression technology has played a critical role as well. Over the years, significant advancements have been made in video coding standards — including H.263, MPEG formats, and H.264—alongside compression optimization technologies developed by IP video manufacturers to improve efficiency without sacrificing quality. The open-source AV1 codec developed by the Alliance for Open Media—a consortium including Google, Netflix, Microsoft, Amazon and others — is already the preferred decoder for cloud-based applications, and is quickly becoming the standard for video compression of all types.
